A Note from our Founder, Kaylee Allen, MT-BC

I was born and raised in Edmonds, WA and although I went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA it was always important to me to return home and make a positive difference in my community. Music has forever been an important part of my life, and I have also always enjoyed helping people, but it wasn't until I took the Introduction to Music Therapy class at Berklee that I began to put the two together and suddenly things started making a lot more sense. In the more difficult times of my life, music has helped me feel grounded.

When I was five-years-old my doctor found a small tumor in my right ear. This began an introduction between me and an increasingly-familiar hospital environment. I lost my hearing in that ear somewhere during the multiple surgeries, but that is when I began to cling to music more tightly. Shortly before my diagnosis, my dad, who was my hero and my main musical influence was in a car accident that landed him in Harborview Medical Center with a Traumatic Brain Injury. Everything about my dad and our relationship changed, except for music. It was the one thing we still shared and my avenue of connection with him then and now.

My life lessons about loss and pain came early, but with those lessons came a profound understanding of music and healing. I take these life lessons with me into my work. I strive to show others the comfort and happiness that I know to be rooted deeply in music. I am passionate about making a positive difference in my clients' lives with the tool that helped me emerge from my darkest shadows - music.
